Escalating Scientific Progress

Major contributions to leading research institutions from Irvine Company Chairman Donald Bren have created new, highly targeted research opportunities for renowned scientists, medical researchers and scholars. Mr. Bren’s research philanthropy is helping to escalate scientific progress in a wide range of areas—from the search for medical cures to efforts to advance computer technology and protect the environment. 

In addition to funding pioneering research focusing on environmental problem-solving and the computer sciences at the University of California, Mr. Bren has supported the efforts of distinguished scientist Dr. John C. Reed at the internationally acclaimed Burnham Institute for Medical Research. The La Jolla, California-based institute conducts wide-ranging research on cancer, neurosciences and aging, and infectious and inflammatory diseases.
